EDOTCO Malaysia concluded MWC by signing a series of MoUs with key industry players. The partnerships—inked with Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), U Mobile, CelcomDigi, and Avealto—highlight new growth opportunitites for towercos in Asia.
The government’s recent decision to introduce a second wholesale 5G network is reshaping industry dynamics. With DNB’s 5G network already covering 80% of populated areas as of March 2025, EDOTCO’s latest partnerships strategically position the company to play a leading role in the next phase of network expansion and sustainability initiatives by working with U Mobile, the country's second 5G wholesale network.
A key component of EDOTCO’s agreements is its collaboration with DNB to develop Langkawi as Malaysia’s first 5G-enabled digital tourism hub. This project underscores towercos' new role in using telecom infrastructure to find new tenants and business partners beyond traditional urban areas.
In parallel, EDOTCO’s partnership with U Mobile designates it as one of the first officially recognised 5G In-Building Coverage (IBC) partner. With urban areas demanding higher data capacity, this collaboration will support U Mobile’s 5G network rollout by delivering comprehensive site acquisition, design, supply, commissioning, and maintenance services.
EDOTCO’s partnership with CelcomDigi is centered around two major initiatives: sustainable telecom infrastructure and bridging the digital divide. The introduction of Net Zero Towers marks a step toward reducing the carbon footprint of telecommunications infrastructure. Additionally, the companies are rolling out low-power, lightweight connectivity solutions aimed at underserved rural areas. These towers promise quick deployment and energy efficiency, aligning with Malaysia’s broader digital inclusion goals.
Beyond terrestrial infrastructure, EDOTCO is also venturing into high-altitude connectivity solutions through a Proof of Concept (PoC) trial with Avealto. While similar trials have been conducted globally, the technology is still being proven commercially. If successful, high-altitude platforms could provide a viable alternative for reaching remote areas where traditional towers are not feasible.
Towercos are increasingly expanding beyond being close partners to mobile network operators, by aligning itself with national priorities—including digital inclusion, sustainability, and 5G expansion—EDOTCO is strengthening its value proposition as Malaysia’s telecom sector enters a new phase of development.
