South African open-access infrastructure provider Frogfoot network has acquired the fibre assets of American Tower Africa (ATC Africa), amidst a series of consolidation plays in South Africa's competitive telecom infrastructure sector.
According to multiple reports, the deal includes 11,000km of fibre optic cabling across South Africa, increasing the network providers’ network footprint.
Shane Chorley, CEO of Frogfoot Networks, stated the acquisition marks an integration of ATC’s assets into its fibre network as a natural extension of their partnership, which has been in place since 2017.
“Our partnership has been built on mutual trust and shared goals and the acquisition aligns perfectly with our long-term strategy of strengthening and expanding Frogfoot’s network capabilities,” says Chorley.
Frogfoot emphasised the deal was a commitment to sustainable growth and ongoing investment in top-tier network infrastructure, bolstering its market competition and ensuring connectivity to customers.
ATC has been an active stakeholder in the market. First acquiring Cell C’s portfolio in 2010, the towerco has grown to operating over 2,600 towers in South Africa as well as over 150 rooftop sites.
