Cellnex, Europe’s largest telecoms infrastructure operator, has partnered with Elawan Energy to secure a long-term renewable energy supply through a new Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The 10-year deal ensures that all electricity consumed by Cellnex originates from renewable sources, advancing its pledge to fully transition to clean energy by 2035.
The agreement has paved the way for the development of three solar photovoltaic farms in Albacete and a wind farm in Cuenca, Spain, with a combined capacity of 200 MW. This capacity is equivalent to powering 114,000 homes annually, marking a significant contribution to Spain's renewable energy targets.
Beyond stabilising energy prices for Cellnex, the PPA supports the creation of new renewable energy infrastructure, furthering both companies' environmental objectives. This initiative aligns with Cellnex's broader efforts to cut emissions, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2035 and Net Zero by 2050.
Mila Rey, Global Head of Energy at Cellnex, highlighted the strategic importance of this agreement, stating it reinforces the company’s commitment to sustainability while boosting the nation’s green energy capacity.
